the Ford Plant in Milpitas. Industrial production developed significantly after World War II and growth since has been rapid.
    The manufacture of computers, chips and electronic items started taking the lead in the late 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. The explosive growth of internet related companies in the 1990's, brought a boom to the region. However, in 2000 software developers started cutting jobs back, and stocks fell.
    Home values suffered as the "dot com" stocks plunged. Layoffs abounded causing large numbers of contract employees and their families to return to their home countries. This caused a local recession and high unemployment. However, the area came back strongly in 2004 with high demand for homes where multiple offers continue to dominate in 2005.
