An abundance
of Victorian homes may be found in the old downtown. North Santa Cruz Avenue
has many quaint merchant buildings where people love to shop for a variety
of merchandise. There are also many restaurants, galleries, and coffee
shops in the old downtown. In all of Los Gatos there are over 3000 businesses.
We have
a mild mediterranean-like climate. Winters are wet, hardly ever reaching
the freezing point. Summers are dry and mild with only perhaps 2 or 3 weeks
a year when you are glad you have air conditioning. It is a climate that
encourages a wide abundance of home grown flowers.
Los Gatos
schools have an excellent reputation. A large percentage of students go
on to college. The parents are very involved. They volunteer to help out
with activities, and they provide financial support whenever needed. The
city prides itself in its high standard of living which includes excellence
in all aspects of life.
In the outskirts
of town can be found Vasona Reservoir and Vasona Park. The reservoir is
kept full year round by water stored in Lexington reservoir in the mountains
next to highway 17. In the park is the famous Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad
and an old fashioned merry-go-round. Both operate daily in the summertime.
There are plenty of picnic tables, hiking & biking trails, playgrounds
for summer relaxation. Canoes, kayaks and small sailboats are allowed on
the reservoir.
Other highlights
include the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club which began in 1960 and the Los
Gatos Rowing Club which started in 1978.
