- - - Our town got its start in the 1870's
with a post office and a school district. Average daily school attendance
was six. As is the case with many of the coastal towns south of San Francisco,
the village was a getaway for San Franciscans in the early 1900's.
The community is located in an unincorporated section of San Mateo County,
in the forest on the west side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about halfway
between Cupertino and the Pacific Ocean. It is about 10 miles from the
coast. The area community actually covers approximately 100 square miles.
This area includes about 700 homes.
Many residents of the town commute to Silicon Valley or the penninsula
to work. The area is very rural, with television service (continued
