    Gilroy has won more park design awards from the California Park and Recreation Society than any other city in California with excellent design within many of its various sized parks comprising 440 acres in total. Additionally there is the Bonfante Gardens Theme Park within a 600 acre preserve. One can see its acclaimed Circus Trees and a beautiful 1927 carousel. The city's claim as the "Garlic Capital of the World" brings 125,000 visitors annually on the last weekend of July to the garlic festival. The garlic festival is a culmination of a 10 month "food festival".
    There is other recreation available in and around Gilroy, including golf courses and water sports in several nearby reservoirs.
    Cal-Train currently makes its last stop in Gilroy as a commuter connection to San Francisco and all cities in between.
    The climate is often described as "Mediterranean" with mild temperatures. The climate is hot and dry in the summer with mild winters during the rainy season.
