Later renamed after one of the first property owners, the town was originally conceived to be a purely residental community. Today it is a small, residential town of 6-square miles and about 2500 households, and there are no businesses within the city limits.

The town is situated just east of highway 280 in the hills and flatlands between Palo Alto and Redwood City.
